Interlibrary Loan

What is Interlibrary Loan?

We have a very rich collection in our library. It is always a good idea to ask a librarian to direct you to the right source or material for your research. If you don't find what you need, the Interlibrary Loan department can borrow materials that are not available in the library such as books, periodical articles, etc.

Who can use it?

Current faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students of Alabama State University. This service is extended to members of ASU for research projects or course-related assignments.

Where is it located?

Interlibrary Loan pick-up and drop-off is at the Information Desk on the first floor of the Library. A Current Valid I.D. is required to pick up ILL materials. Please DO NOT RETURN Interlibrary Loan materials anywhere but the Reference Desk. This is very important. We depend upon other libraries to lend the materials we do not own. So it is important that all materials be returned on time

How do I use Interlibrary Loan?

Interlibrary loan forms are available on the first floor of the Library. Please ask at the Reference desk. Library staff at Public Service Desks can assist with finding the necessary information to complete the form as well as help determine if the material is held in the Library. Interlibrary Loan staff will make every effort to borrow materials at no cost, however, the patron will be notified of possible ILL charges prior to receiving the material. There are usually no charges for books. If the material being requested is an AV material (CD, video, DVD, etc.) we may not be able to borrow it from other libraries because these materials may be non-circulating. Allow at least one week for a response to the submitted request. Please check the status with the Interlibrary loan department to see if the material is available for pick-up.

If you abuse this service, your privileges with Interlibrary Loan could be terminated.

Card from the Information Desk on the first floor at Levi Watkins Learning Center.
